The challenge
Air Malta has been working with Alert Communications since 2006. The portal which Alert developed at the time was very successful, leading to a considerable increase in online sales.
In 2009 the company commissioned Alert to create a brand new multilingual portal, with a fresh look and a user-friendly interface. The main aim was to create an attractive transactional site that would increase online bookings - which by then had become a very important part of the company's turnover.
The approach
Alert Communications created a website with a clean design that guides users straight to doing business with Airmalta.
Users can easily access the information they require in order to purchase whatever it is they need, be it flights, car rental, hotel bookings, airport transfers, excess baggage allowances, airport parking or even insurance. The portal is a one-stop shop for all the user's travel needs.
The result
An engaging and interactive portal that was launched in April 2010.
The portal is available in English, Maltese, French, German and Italian and the main landing page changes according to the IP number of the visitor. This means that if someone accesses the site from Italy, with an Italian IP number, they will immediately view the Italian version of the site, with special offers pertaining to their country. Visitors can book flights and all their travel requirements through a search pod conveniently located on the main page, making navigation through the site simple and intuitive.
The site has several new sections, foremost amongst which is the airline's Eco Initiative. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme Air Malta is committed to operate with an environmentally friendly attitude. The new website has a section that promotes two important environmental organisations - Tree4U with its Tree sponsorship programme and NatureTrust with its Adopt a Turtle initiative. The airline encourages its clients to make a difference to the environment by making a donation to these two worthwhile initiatives. Donations are processed securely using the PCI certified Alert Payment Gateway, which is connected to both Bank of Valletta and HSBC. Users have full peace of mind regarding security of their data.
Feedback about the site has been extremely positive and the plans are to extend the portal further with new functionality and language translations in the near future.
