Alert Communications Ltd has been chosen to represent Malta in the prestigious European Business Awards (EBA) which are sponsored by HSBC.
EBA is Europe’s leading business awards programme and seeks to recognise Europe’s brightest businesses for their business excellence, best practice and innovation.
Alert Communications (www.alert.com.mt) is the leading web development agency in Malta, offering a comprehensive range of services for clients who want to make effective use of the Internet, including web design and application development, SEO and Social Media Consultancy, Data Centre services, Payment Gateway services & eCommerce
The company was recognised by EBA for its outstanding efforts in the field of eCommerce in Malta.
Speaking about the award, Claudine Cassar, Managing Director of the company stated, “We are delighted that EBA have recognised our hard work in the ICT field in Malta! One of the most exciting developments in our business at the moment is the forming of a Public-Private Partnership with the Government of Malta to launch an eCommerce platform for SMEs on the island. The main aim of this project is to counteract the very low takeup of eCommerce technology in Malta by making available an excellent eCommerce platform to local businesses at a low cost, thus lowering the barriers to entry and increasing the chances that SMEs will take the leap and adopt the technology.”
“The importance of this Public-Private project cannot be over-emphasized. It is clear from the feedback we have had so far that this eMall will be the catalyst for a new era in eCommerce adoption in Malta.”
When selecting the companies to represent Malta the judges did not only take into consideration turnover and profit. When assessing Alert’s performance in its sector the EBA team also looked at the company’s social responsibility, in particular in relation to customers, staff and the community in general.
“To us it is not only the bottom line that matters. We also take into consideration whether our clients are satisfied with our services and the level of contentment of our staff. It is a source of great pride to us that we have an excellent client retention rate and very low staff turnover. It indicates that we are doing something right,” explained Cassar.
“Our people stay with us because we are committed to their development and believe passionately in work/life balance. Alert is very family-oriented, offering flexitime, reduced hours and job sharing. Furthermore Alert is one of the few private companies in Malta that allows new mothers to take up to 30 weeks of maternity leave, as opposed to 14 weeks as stipulated by law.”
“In addition we believe that it is important that we give something back to the community. That is why we are involved with several NGOs that are making an important contribution to our society. Every year our team identifies a number of organisations to support, spreading our commitment over as wide a spectrum of sectors as possible.”
The Awards ceremony will be held at the Hilton in Malta on the 8th June. After that the country representatives will go on to compete against other successful organisations also selected as Country Representatives across the European Union. Judges will meet in Paris on Friday 16 July to deliberate and determine which of the Country Representatives will be selected as a recipient for a prestigious Ruban d’Honneur.
